Servers Crash! – It’s a fact of life.
Servers crash, but we all think it won’t happen to us.
Well it did happen to me last Friday and I lost my site plus access to all admin and members contact details.
As of now, (Tuesday) it is still down and will probably be back later today.
My membership site uses a server based script so I have nothing on my local machine other than the log in info, so I was plunged into complete darkness.
What should I have done as insurance? The only thing that comes to mind is to have a backup of the member database so that I could email using a different way. All my emails go through the system, not a separate auto responder.
When it is back, I’ll consider myself lucky that it was not the hard drive that failed and put safeguards in place so that I can continue serving my members, should it happen again.
